Apparently, a story I contributed to will be on NPR’s Morning Edition, 9am EST on Thursday the 4th (Two New Bibles Preach a Hip Eco-Friendly Gospel)
Please hold me accountable if my ego gets inflated over being a part of this fine program.
For first-timers’ reference, my reviews of the two bibles being featured can be found here:
– The Bible Illuminated [review]
– The Green Bible [review]
And the purpose of this blog can be found here:
– Hacking Christianity Manifesto
Welcome to our visitors and consider this an open post to talk about the issues raised in the program.
UPDATE: I guess I misunderstood the timing, it’s up now. They used very little of the 30-minute interview, of course. Here’s my talking points in a Google Doc for you to enjoy.
Jim
Congrats, that is a huge honor. Let your ego soar!!

Hat Tip to Rev. Smith…Very good contribution.

Dear Jeremy: Regarding congrats from Jim, allow me to thump Isaiah 26; 7. Hell awaits those who allow their egos to soar. Also, Rev. 22; 18-19 warns about embellishing Bible prophecy. Popularization of sacred texts could result in damnation. Beware!

@ Jim and TheoEd, thanks for the comments! I hope it brings inspiration.
@ T Carl, I believe the ego comments are in jest. However, you bring up an interesting point of embellishing biblical texts. To your point, in both bibles, they are full and complete biblical translations by faithful scholars. I think “watered-down” versions of the bible do more damage than these two ones in discussion.

Way to go Jeremy! I heard the interview while driving to Tulsa this morning at about 5:30am Central time.
I was so proud of you and the awesome spokesperson you were for a reasonable, United Methodist voice!
I try and check on your blog to keep me inspired as I write mine. You’re doing phenomenal work here. Keep it UP!

Well I guess I’m busted! LOL. I heard the NPR report and was intrigued by both the books and your blog. I’ve been a practicing Wiccan for about a year, but was brought up Catholic, and I continue to seek to come to terms with Christianity. I’m also a strong environmentalist so the Green Bible obviously appeals to me. I’m constantly telling my religious friends that the story of the Great Flood is the best argument for protecting our planet and its non-human citizens. If God cared enough about his creations to command Noah to take a breeding pair of every species with him on the Ark, who are we to stand idly by while they are destroyed? Anyway I’m looking forward to reading your blog.

Jeremy,
Wow, that is so amazing! Cool for you and a great way to get folks talking about the Bible (who cares what translation they’re talking about; just talking about it is a start!).
I’ll help you keep your ego in check if you help me manage my massive and unchristian jealousy! Now I don’t want to come to NEAC, because I won’t be the hippest, bloggingest pastor in the Conference. wah.

Jeremy,
Great interview on NPR this morning, nasal passages and all. You were concise and insightful and referred to as “Reverend” on NPR. In other words, you accomplished more in 5 minutes than I do in a week, well done sir. I hope to see you during the holidays and I will continue to practice ESP to win party games.

@ David, Becca, Gabe, thanks to my real-life peeps for not driving into a ditch when you listened to NPR this morning. Wait, of course Gabe wasn’t in a ditch…he was probably still in his boxers blogging. But thanks for the kudos anyway!
@ PattyP, great to “know” ya. I’ve got several environmental posts here, and one in the pipeline probably on Monday or Tuesday. Hope you stick around and tune in, I’m interested in what you’ve got to say!

Hey, Jeremy!
You don’t sound like an Okie on the radio at all!
You’ll have to review the new Wesley Study Bible when it’s published in February…

Rev. Jeremy,
Seriously I don’t really think its great to change the Bible or even the cover just to attract people. The Bible is holy so why put goth images or other images that is not related to God’s Word and changing the Word of God.
No offense.

Hey, I found you via NPR. I’m glad they highlighted the Bibles, that’s why NPR is so awesome! Plenty of diversity.

Congrats! We offered you and another pastor to NPR for commentary, glad they used your quotes…it’s Kat again, from Bible Illuminated, and just wanted to say thanks for offering one of the best, most thorough and genuine reviews of our project. Happy holidays!

You did well! I forgot it was going to be on and just happened to have the radio on at the right moment. Both Bibles sound very interesting, I would love to see them.

Hi,
I visited hackingchristianity.net through Google and it took the site a very long time to load.
At first I thought it was a problem with my browser, but after checking the site using Speed-on-Net’s website speed analyzer, I noticed the reported load time was extremely slow.
You should check and fix these issues. Have a look:
