If Progressive Methodists cannot imagine life outside the Wesleyan perspective, then there is nowhere else for them to go except to continue to reform the United Methodist Church.
Divesting from the UMC hamstrings the ability of the local progressive church to be a positive and resourceful presence to LGBT folks in the community and keeps collective groups of progressives from being viable alternatives to the majority voices.
Our prayers need to be with the boards that certify people for ordination in the UMC as they decide how to handle prohibitions that will not stand the test of time.
